Recording is the most essential phase of the production of any audio. The decisions you make in this step will impact everything afterwards so ensure you get the highest quality start to your project. With extensive pre-planning and an understanding of  signal flow from the mic to your speakers engineers can make sure your film/album gets off to a running start. Whether it be recording a solo artist, full band, location sound/ADR/foley for your film project, or even your next podcast, let Waffledog get you the best sound!

ADR- (automated dialogue replacement) or “overdubbing” is where we record the talent delivering lines in an isolated environment with quality gear in order to get the most clear and audible lines possible. Most of the lines you hear in any movie/commercial/show is done in this way to ensure the listener is getting the clearest possible dialogue. Often, on-set dialogue recording can be muffled by unavoidable disturbances such as a busy roadway, a malfunctioning microphone, etc. By having Waffledog handle your next ADR session, you can rest easy knowing no one will miss a word!

Foley-is absolutely critical for creating a sense of realness in any film. Foley is the recreation (in post) of different sounds you would expect to hear as you see them happen. This includes everything from the sound of a characters clothing as they move, their footsteps, etc. For example, a character scratches his head and taps his pencil on the desk in frustration. The microphones on set during the shooting of the scene likely won't capture the scratching or tapping sound clearly, and so Foley engineers can recreate the sounds using the same materials or materials with the same sound to recreate the desired scratching or tapping! A film without the subtle sounds will sound empty and unrealistic. By using industry standard gear and Waffledog’s foley secret recipes your next film will draw the audience in deeper with every detail.

Mixing for music and film not only requires a technical know-how, but an attention to detail and an understanding of the artist/producers intent.Working with the artist and communication about the artist's vision is the essential first step for delivering a great track.  Let Waffledog create the most impactful mix for any project! Reverb, EQ, Compression, and other techniques can be used to bring out the most in the mix whether it be getting you those gut punching drum sounds, clear dialogue, or that elusive perfect tone.

Mastering is the last step for any project before it hits the audience! This stage is for getting in any last changes to the audio to ensure quality. While the mixing process is like taking a machine apart and cleaning individual pieces to ensure they fit together perfectly and run well, mastering is the final wax and polish that catches your eye. However, mastering isn’t just a second phase to mixing, the mastering step is there to ensure that your music can be output to whatever mediums you want. Youtube, Spotify, Itunes, your car radio; they all have different specifications for playing back audio and in order to ensure your song translates well across all platforms, adjustments to format, average loudness, and many other factors have to be addressed. Let Waffledog get your music out to as large an audience as possible by nailing your next master.

Sound Design allows your project the ability to have unique, and original FX. Sounds from a library often lack the detail you can get from creating and modifying a brand new sound from scratch. Waffledog has experience with both design for film and game audio and have the creative approach necessary for bringing the sounds in your project to life. By using plug-ins, modifying sounds from his library of original recorded sounds, and using advanced editing techniques it is possible to create any sound desired!

Will Jackson is an Audio Engineer currently working out of Atlanta. A graduate of Atlanta Institute of Music, Will got his start in audio playing in bands from a young age. After having several experiences in the recording studio and seeing how critical the engineers role  is in the process of creating a great sounding song he was inspired to try his own hand at it. After attending school for audio post production, Will picked up skills and interest in expanding outside of the realm of music production and into audio for film and gaming.  He has handled artist tracking, mixing, location audio, ADR, audio repair, sound design/implementation for Unity and Unreal engines and more.
